Whats a better fishing pier?

I'm going pier fishing this week in Myrtle beach. Ive never been pier fishing before. My goal is to catch at least one fish don't care what kind. Cherry grove pier and Apache pier are about the same distance away from where I'm staying. Which is a better fishing pier? Also would it be better just to fish in the surf? Any tips on surf fishing or pier fishing would be great. (bait, time, rigs etc.) Thanks
